However, it will just be as slow as the older model.
Another aspect that you have to consider is the power supply for the USB splitter. Some splitters rely on your computer’s power. Other models on the other hand, have a built-in power supply. The unpowered USB splitters are best for common uses, such as flash drives and external devices that do not consume so much power. If you want to minimize the clutter, it is best to use an unpowered splitter so that you don’t have to deal with a number of cables lying around. A powered splitter is best for high performance devices such as a secondary hard drive. If you run such a device on an unpowered splitter, it may not perform at its best.

The more ports you have, the more USB devices you can use, and this is the main reason why you bought the splitter.
